Thousands showed up at today’s Save the St. Lucie River Rally at Phipps Park in Stuart. The event was organized via Facebook to protest the Lake Okeechobee discharges that are killing thousands of animals, making people very sick, and destroying the environment.

Martin County Sheriff William Snyder and Captain Mike Ewing, along with Community Policing, Traffic and Uniform Patrol Deputies facilitated traffic control and crowd safety at the rally.

Sheriff Snyder said supporters came by car, boat, foot, bicycle, and even ATV. The well-organized event created some traffic back ups, but no significant problems.
