Martin County faces legal action after deciding a proposed Hobe Sound development cannot proceed as planned.

Seabranch, the proposed 194-unit development, is too dense, and not in keeping with the area, the Commission ruled Tuesday.

Commissioner Anne Scott said she resented that Avalon Ventures presumed to understand the character of Martin County — and yet had no respect for it.

“When I asked, ‘Why would your client want to put this kind of development in this community?’ You said, ‘because we can,’ ” said Scott about a conversation with Avalon’s attorney, before the meeting.
