Suspected pillowcase burglars assault deputies; manhunt and arrests end on Bridge Road

Martin County Sheriff’s Deputies searched for possible burglary suspects today, who led deputies on a brief pursuit, then rammed two sheriff’s deputy’s vehicles before crashing into a ditch along 96th Street in Stuart.

 

Deputies set up a large perimeter around the area with road patrol units, traffic units, warrants, K-9, civil, air units and detectives.

 

Crystal Lake Elementary School was on lock down due to the close proximity of the search perimeter.

 

One suspect was in custody, while the 100 shift of the Martin County Sheriff’s Uniform Patrol division located and arrested the second suspect near a pasture along SW Bridge Road.

 

Sgt Karl Nelson and Deputy Brian Patterson responded to calls of possible suspect sightings in the area and set up a small perimeter, locating the man a short time later.

 

The suspect refused to give deputies any information, but was positively identified by his co-defendant and responding deputies as the second suspect. He was arrested and taken into custody.
