‘Salerno Strangler’ sentenced to 3 life terms

37-year-old Eugene McWatters, the man convicted of the 2004 sexual assault and murders of three women in Martin County pleaded no contest to three counts of 1st degree murder.


He was immediately sentenced to three consecutive life terms in prison without the possibility of parole.


McWatters was convicted of the killings in 2007 for which he was a sentenced to death; however, last year a judge overturned that conviction and ordered a new trial for McWatters.


Before the trial was set to begin, McWatters asked to make the plea deal.
