RIP Barbara Bush, former First Lady who often visited Jupiter Island

[Former President George H.W. Bush’s father, Prescott Bush, bought a home on Jupiter Island in the 1960s, and former First Lady Barbara Bush often visited.  It’s a place where the family vacationed for decades and where Dorothy Walker Bush lived for part of the year until near her death at 91 years old in 1992. Christ Memorial Chapel, after all, sits on the seventh hole of the Jupiter Island Club golfing green. Near its pink flagstone, palm-lined front walkway, a sign warns ”Stop for golfers.” Players teed off as the voices of worshipers warbling Episcopal hymns floated over the green.

After the service, President-elect Bush hugged his mother, who comes down from Kennebunkport, Me., every winter to stay in a salmon-colored frame and wood house on Jupiter Island…
