Protecting Florida’s most vulnerable citizens: long-term care failures

“A focus has been placed on the conditions of the state’s 2,956 assisted living facilities since a year-long investigation by the Miami Herald revealed widespread neglect and abuse and a failure by the state to act against even the worst of the bad facilities. Two months ago, in a followup to those revelations, the state Senate Health Regulation Committee launched its own investigation and recently issued a report sharply critical of the state Agency for Health Care Administration for lax oversight of assisted living facilities and called for sweeping legislative reforms.”
