PB Post: Lawyers want water district’s Meeker deposed on billboard contract

Four days after Melissa Meeker’s surprise resignation as executive director of the South Florida Water Management District, her name was bandied about in an Orlando courtroom Friday, where attorneys want to force her to testify about how a company owned by a former board member and her ex-business partner won a lucrative contract to build billboards on district land.

WHAT THE POST FOUND: Christine Stapleton was first to report that South Florida water managers voted for a contract to let one of their former board members erect billboards on public lands. She also uncovered how a stealth amendment was tacked onto a bill in Tallahassee to make it possible.
