Palm City woman helps to rescue thoroughbreds

Barbi Moline of Palm City is a volunteer with the Florida Thoroughbred Retirement and Adoptive Care Program

Public donations and help from the racing industry allowed FTRAC to move to an 80-acre, 75-stall location in Fort Pierce in May. The organization also has a 50-acre farm in Indiantown. Many of the racehorses are accustomed to a strictly regimented routine. It takes them some time to get used to having plenty of room to roam.

“We give the horses plenty of time once they get off the track, whether they are injured or not,” Moline said. “They are turned out and they get to be a horse for a while before we do anything with them. They get plenty of down time to just be a horse.”
