From The Palm Beach Post’s award-winning blogger, Sally Swartz:

Maggy is Maggy Hurchalla, who served on the Martin County Commission from 1974-94. More than 60 residents gathered to cheer this week when a small park in Rocky Point was named “Maggy’s Hammock Park” in her honor.

The county’s four-story height limit, its protections for wetlands and native habitat all are part of Martin’s protective growth plan, which Ms. Hurchalla helped create in the 1980s. After recent commissions removed many of the protections, Ms. Hurchalla volunteered her time to meet with residents, developers, business representatives and county staff to restore and update the plan.
