Palm Beach Post: Martin County Commission meeting prayers up for debate

From The Palm Beach Post’s award-winning blogger, Sally Swartz: Just in time for the holidays, here’s a dust-up over who’s allowed to lead prayers before Martin County Commission meetings. A lawyer for the Appignani Humanist Legal Center in Washington, D.C., objects to Martin’s “unconstitutional legislative prayer practice” in a Dec. 9 letter to commissioners.

The letter is written on behalf of Martin resident Joe Beck, who recently asked to deliver a Humanist invocation at a commission meeting. Humanists believe people can lead responsible, ethical lives without believing in a supernatural higher power.
