Palm Beach Post: Martin BDB negotiations a combination melodrama and farce

Sally Swartz of The Palm Beach Post

From the Palm Beach Post’s award-winning blogger, Sally Swartz: Forging a fair contract to replace the sweetheart deal the old commission majority gave the BDB is proving a challenge. On Sept. 10, commissioners told negotiators to cut BDB money from $648,000 to $200,000 annually, cut the BDB board from 27 members to seven and the contract from 10 years to three. This week, BDB members cast the BDB as the patient, good-faith negotiators and paint the county commissioners as villains in this ongoing drama.

BDB member Jeff Bowers said he feels the “business sector in this local community is under attack” and that business in Martin is “perceived as evil.”

Jensen Beach resident Jackie Trancynger calls that “simplistic nonsense” and resident Myra Galoci suggests that past bad behavior by the BDB is perceived as evil, not the business community.
