Florida Power & Light Co. wants to purchase a coal-fired power plant in Indiantown for $451 million and immediately reduce the plant’s operations with the intention of eventually shutting it down.

FPL is requesting PSC approval of the purchase by December, so that the purchase can be completed as soon as possible to maximize customer savings. Over the remaining life of the contract, approximately nine years, FPL projects $129 million in customer savings.
