Outrage at BOCC meeting: Public comment ignored, referendum on customs facility refused

Public comment ignored, referendum refused at March 4th Board of County Commissioners meeting: Martin County voters, residents and taxpayers outraged.

Martin County Commissioner Anne Scott (District 3) and Commissioner John Haddox (District 5) have re-neged on their 2012 campaign promises for a community-friendly Martin County airport.

Scott and Haddox joined with Commissioner Doug Smith (District 1) to approve a customs facility, without even listening to public comment.

The customs facility will increase air traffic, noise pollution, and taxes for residents and voters.

Commission Chair Sarah Heard (District 2) suggested that this important issue be put on the referendum in the upcoming election cycle to determine voters’ support for the customs facility.

Scott, Smith and Haddox refused to allow the public to have a vote.
