New owners of BankAtlantic to cut 365 employees

Financial giant BB&T, which acquired BankAtlantic three weeks ago, announced the layoff plan in a notification to the state released on Wednesday.
 
BankAtlantic had 78 branches in five southeast Florida counties at the time of the sale. (Martin County branches are located in Port Salerno, Jensen Beach, Hobe Sound, and Palm City.)
 
BB&T had 68 of its own branches in those five counties.
 
BB&T now is studying all those branches to determine which ones overlap and which branches may need to close.
