From MCSO: The Martin County Sheriff’s Office is assisting Customs and Border Patrol (CBT), Homeland Security, Jupiter Island Police, and FWC (Fish and Wildlife Commission) with a refugee landing that took place this morning on the north side of Jupiter Island.
It happened just before 10am.
At this hour, eight females, six males and two children are in custody.
One female, who is pregnant, was transported to the hospital for observation.
We received initial reports that 20-30 people were seen running from a boat.
It appears that some of the individuals are of Haitian descent and others are Colombian.
It does not appear that the number is that high.
MCSO has air, ground and marine units in the area. We will update this as information becomes available.
