MCSO: Haitian refugees in custody on Jupiter Island, authorities search for more

From Martin County Sheriff’s Office: US Customs has taken over an investigation into an illegal immigrant landing Tuesday night along the 600 block of S. Beach Road on Jupiter Island. 

Martin County Sheriff’s Office, Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, Tequesta Police, Jupiter Police, Jupiter Island Police and US Customs all took part in a search just after 9:30 pm, when Haitian refugees were spotted walking along S. Beach Road.

Seven refugees are in custody. One of the refugees told deputies there were 20-people on one boat, and 14-on a second vessel. They said they left Haiti on Friday.
