Martin beaches under state of emergency because of erosion

A state of emergency has been issued for all Martin County beaches for the next seven days because of erosion caused by rough surf.

The order allows crews to stage equipment and take emergency action if the erosion worsens, said county spokeswoman Gabriella Ferraro. TC Palm reports that the order goes into effect Saturday through March 16.

All county beaches will remain open.
