Bullsugar.org identified competitive primary races with a clear difference in candidates on the issue of stopping toxic algae discharges and restoring America’s Everglades.

The most important action you can take to solve Florida’s water management crisis is to vote for candidates committed to fixing it. We’ve worked to identify who they are (more on this below) to help you make informed decisions. But that’s different from telling you who to support.

Clean water crosses party lines. So does corruption. Our goal is to recognize candidates who distinguish themselves with their knowledge of the issues and influences destroying our waterways and threatening our health and safety, and with their committment to protecting South Florida for future generations. We found Democrats and Republicans willing to stand up for clean water.

We highlighted a limited set of primaries where strong candidates clearly offered voters a positive choice in communities that need it most. We looked for people willing to sign the Now Or Neverglades Declaration. And to refuse donations from the sugarcane industry. And we asked them, Should human health and safety be prioritized above sugarcane yield? Should polluters pay their own cleanup costs? Should public land serve the public interest?

You can see exactly what we asked here–these aren’t trick questions. Voters deserve to know where candidates stand on all of them, and no one who refuses to answer can be counted on to support clean water politics in Florida. If a candidate you expected to find wasn’t included, feel free to ask why. Or ask these questions directly.

One last request: Please help us get the word out. Elections matter. Please share these guides with as many people as you can. Together we can make a difference.
