Is Audubon of Martin County for the birds?

Swartz continues: Martin Audubon vice president Fran Stewart and treasurer Debbie Clark said only 11 Martin members pay their dues locally.

Another problem: Martin members, they said, are too old.

“We’d love to have young families involved with Audubon,” Ms. Clark said,  “instead of all older, retired people.” Past boards, they said, haven’t worked to build membership. But those in power ignore members who volunteer to serve on the board.

Complaining the group doesn’t have enough volunteers to maintain the properties it owns, Ms. Clark suggests selling land to put more money in the local group’s bank account.

That’s a terrible idea. Audubon accepted land to conserve it.
