Incoming FL Senate Dem Leader Clemens resigns after affair with former Martin County lobbyist

“By now, many of you have probably heard that today was my last day as the Martin County Board of County Commissioners Government Relations Manager. I would like to thank everyone at the county, especially Doug Smith (my personal photographer and political mentor) for trusting me with the state and federal legislative programs, which gave me the chance to grow into the profession. I am
happy to finally announce that I will be joining Eddy Labrador, Marty Cassini and Dee Sainvil in the Broward County Office of Intergovernmental Affairs and Professional Standards. I couldn’t ask for a better team to work with and I’m excited for this new chapter.
I would be remiss if I didn’t thank my friends and colleagues who have supported me along the way and inspire me daily. So, thank you to my legislative family Melissa McKinlay, Kate Pingolt Cotner, Nicole Williams Fogarty, Todd Bonlarron, Rachael Ondrus, Candice Ericks, Jack Latvala, Kristin Jacobs, Corey C Staniscia, Michelle Oyola McGovern, Shreya Kuntawala, Chris Schoonover, Rick Kendust, Jeremy Ring and Karson Turner.
See you all at the Florida Association of Counties Annual Conference next week!”

From The Palm Beach Post: The resignation came less than 24 hours after Clemens sent an email apologizing to Senate Democrats on Thursday night as Politico was preparing to report that Clemens had an affair with lobbyist Devon West.

West worked for the Martin County government and now works for Broward County’s lobbying office.
