Funeral services for Indian River Lagoon at St. Lucie Lock and Dam, May 3

St. Lucie Lock and Dam (Phipps Park) in Stuart

Activists says last week’s delay by the Army Corps of Engineers (ACOE) regarding the Central Everglades Planning Project (CEPP) is the death knell for the Indian River Lagoon, and a  funeral event is planned to mourn the loss:

The time has come to say goodbye to our beloved Indian River Lagoon. Our government has turned their backs on her and are allowing her slow death. ACOE has decided to postpone any decision on CEPP and our river just doesn’t have another 10 years to wait. Come out to mourn her loss, pay your respects and let the world know that we are not going to accept anything less than a fix. Bring your friends and family and make sure to bring your signs of despair! Wear black to show you are in mourning. Arrival is recommended by 9:00 am to allow all to get parked. Funeral services start at 10 am with processional to locks immediately afterwards.
