Martin County Sheriff’s Community Oriented Policing (COP) deputies are making contact with hundreds of beach goers today, warning them of the dangers of the toxic algae laden waters rolling up on beaches.

Double red flags are flying at Bathtub and Stuart Beach warning swimmers of the health hazards.

Waves mixed with green slime are coating the beaches with algae.

Deputies are on foot and ATV’s working with lifeguards to clear the beaches until the algae completely dissipates.

The current is moving north, and it is likely Jensen Beach will be closed next.

MCSO’s Marine Units and COP deputies have been warning people of the potential dangers of swimming in or near the algae bloom for days.
