City of Stuart turns 100

CBS-12 reports that The City of Stuart turned 100 this week. “Its been a great 100 years and I look forward to another 100 years,” said Stuart mayor Troy MacDonald.

Incorporated back in 1914 as part of Palm Beach County, it wasn’t until 1925 founding families in Stuart lobbied Tallahassee to secede and create Martin County.

During the 1970’s and 1980’s, when the malls sprang up, downtown Stuart closed down.
