Army Corps to increase flow from Lake O; wants to lower water level, break up algae bloom

From WPTV: The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will once again increase water discharges from Lake Okeechobee. It hopes to not only reduce the water level at the lake but break up a toxic algae bloom at Port Mayaca.

State officials recently confirmed that the algae tested positive for low levels of microcystin, which is a toxic substance produced by freshwater cyanobacteria and can cause liver damage.
